We are saddened to learn of the recent passing of Ned Allen, former Executive Director of Bridgton Historical Society, local historian, and valued member of the Lake Region community. Ned served as Executive Director of BHS from 1995 to 2020, leaving an important legacy of community stewardship and scholarship.
We worked closely with Ned on a number of projects over the years, most notably the conservation of Peabody-Fitch Woods surrounding BHS's Narramissic Farm in South Bridgton. His support for conservation of the land, enthusiasm for expanding public access, and commitment to partnership with LELT made the project possible. The next time you visit Narramissic Farm and Peabody-Fitch Woods, we hope you’ll pause to remember Ned.
Ned was kind, generous and humble, with a deep well of knowledge about Lake Region history. He published two books, "Images of America: Bridgton" and "The Sebago Lake Region, A Brief History" which we highly recommend to anyone who loves this place and its history.
We hope you'll join us in supporting Bridgton Historical Society in memory of Ned and his enduring contribution to the greater Bridgton and Lake Region community.
