Some friendly trail and access reminder as we head into the holiday weekend after a long stretch of rain:
- Carry out everything you bring in - including dog poop! Pick it up and carry it all the way out to your car, back to your house or the nearest trash receptacle. No LELT properties have trash service.
- Keep dogs on a leash where required. The trails are getting busier and some folks choose to hike on trails where there are dogs on leash policies for a number of reasons. Please be respectful.
- If a trail is super muddy, please consider turning back and coming back when things dry out. If there is just a bit of mud and water on the trail, walk through the mud! Straight through the puddle. Seek out stones to step on if you can! Don't step off the trail to go around puddles. Walking around puddles and muddy places widens the trail, tramples vegetation, and contributes to erosion. South facing trails will likely be drier.
- If a parking lot is full, please do not park on the road. Have a plan B and C destination in case you come across a full parking lot. Maine Trail Finder is a great resource for finding local trails!
- Consider giving back to the trails by becoming a LELT ambassador! Sign up for our LELT Ambassador Training on June 9th to learn more about these volunteer opportunities.
It takes all of us working together to keep LELT lands and trails beautiful and ensure everyone enjoys their time on the trail. Thank you for doing your part.
