Loon Echo Land Trust and the Bridgton Public Library have installed a StoryWalk® in Pondicherry Park in downtown Bridgton. The story featured is "The first story of the summer is “At One: In a Place Called Maine” by Lynn Plourde and published by Islandport Press. The StoryWalk is put up annually along the gravel surfaced trail in the Park.
StoryWalk® is an innovative and delightful way for children — and adults — to enjoy reading and the outdoors at the same time. Laminated pages from a children's book are attached to wooden stakes, which are installed along an outdoor path or trail. As you walk down the trail, you're directed to the next page in the story.
To read the story in order, access the trail from the Bob Dunning Bridge entrance to the park on Depot Street. Page one is at the first intersection of the Pondicherry Loop, the last page is at the amphitheater. The trail is six feet wide, has a packed gravel surfaced with gentle slopes and is suitable for some strollers and wheeled mobility devices. It is mostly shaded and there are several granite benches along the route to take a break.
The story will be changed several times throughout the summer. Keep an eye on the Loon Echo Land Trust Facebook page for notification of when the new stories are put up.
