Free Events to Help Get You Outdoors This Winter

Always wanted to try snowshoeing or XC skiing but don't have the gear or know where to begin? Have you been curious about the animal tracks you’ve been seeing this winter? Maybe you’re looking to meet new people and get outside on the trails. Loon Echo Land Trust is hosting several free events throughout February that will help you learn, meet new people, and be active outdoors.

Community Walk, Pondicherry Park | Thursday, February 15th, 12pm – 1pm
Join LELT staff and your neighbors for a community walk in Pondicherry Park in Bridgton. These walks are held monthly on the second Thursday of the month. Some sort of traction – spikes or snowshoes, may be required depending on snow conditions. No registration required and everyone is welcome. Meet at the Bob Dunning Memorial Bridge entrance to the Park on Depot Street.

Winter Family Fun, Mayberry Hill Preserve | Wednesday, February 21st, 10am – 12pm - Join LELT and Casco Recreation for snowshoeing, hot cocoa, and make-your-own bird feeders at Mayberry Hill Preserve in Casco. Kids snowshoes will be available to borrow and families are encouraged to come check out the trails together. The event is free, but registration is required. Winter Fun Day, Peabody-Fitch Woods |Friday, February 23, 10am - 12pm - Try XC skiing, snowshoeing, or fat biking and explore the trails and fields of Narramissic Farm and Peabody-Fitch Woods in South Bridgton. Free gear will be available to borrow, including adaptive gear and support from Maine Adaptive, and fat bikes available from Sportshaus. This event is free, but registration is required. Mammal Tracking | Wednesday, February28, 10am – 12pm - Join Maine Master Naturalists for winter mammal. We move slowly through the woods learning about the wonderous winter world of woodland critters. This event will be held in the Lake Region, with the exact location to be determined closer to the event as it is dependent on conditions. Winter Hike, Bald Pate Mountain Preserve | Friday, March 1, 3:30pm – 5pm – A guided afternoon hike up Bald Pate Mountain in South Bridgton. Snowshoes or other traction maybe required depending on conditions, and gear is available to borrow on a first-come, first-serve basis. Visit lelt.org/events or email maggie@lelt.org to register.
