Mayberry Hill Trail Upgrades Complete

We’re excited to announce that the new field loop trail at Mayberry Hill Preserve in Casco is now open! This 0.4-mile loop trail has a hard-packed, stone dust surface and gentle slopes, making it more accessible for older adults, families, and visitors of all abilities. The parking area has also been expanded, and benches will be added along the trail this spring.

The trail was built by Bruce and Kyle Warren of Warren Excavation, local contractors we’ve partnered with on three accessible trail projects in the Lake Region. In addition, Enock Glidden of Outdoor Access Solutions provided critical guidance and input on project design.

Their expertise, combined with essential support from community members, Maine’s Recreational Trails Program, Athletic Brewing Company's Two for the Trails grant, and an AARP Community Challenge grant, made this project possible. The AARP Community Challenge grant program is part of AARP’s nationwide Livable Communities initiative, which supports the efforts of cities, towns, neighborhoods and rural areas to become great places to live for people of all ages, with an emphasis on people ages 50 and older.

Mayberry Hill Preserve, LELT’s very first preserve donated by the Gillis family in 1990, continues to grow as a place for everyone in our community to connect with each other outside. And this is just the beginning. As part of the trail project, we’ve laid the groundwork for a new ‘kids zone’, and more improvements are planned over the next few years.

This trail reflects LELT’s commitment to investing in our communities and ensuring that outdoor spaces are safe, welcoming, and accessible for all. Join us on Friday, November 14th at noon for a walk around the new trail. We’ll host a larger trail opening and celebration in the spring.
