Summer Hiking & Access Reminders

We have a long weekend ahead of us and we hope you can enjoy time outside with loved ones. In anticipation of the trails being busy, here are some friendly trail and access reminders as we head into the holiday weekend:
🐶 Please keep dogs on leash where required and under control at all times. If your dog does not respond to commands when off-leash, please keep them on a leash even where not required. The trails are getting busier, please be respectful of your fellow trail users and wildlife.
💩 Carry out everything you bring in - especially dog poop! Pick it up and carry it all the way out to your car, back to your house or the nearest trash receptacle. No LELT properties have trash service. Same goes for apple cores and banana peels!
🚗 If a parking lot is full, please do not park on the road. Have a plan B and C destination in case you come across a full parking lot. @mainetrailfinder is a great resource for finding local trails!
⛈ Know before you go. Make sure you check the weather before you hit the trails, and remember that during the summer thunderstorms can develop quickly and unexpectedly. Be prepared and know how to stay safe from lightning.
🌾 The gate for vehicle access to Hacker’s Hill is closed on Friday, July 4th as it is every year. You may walk up dawn to dusk. Please leave the Hill better than you found it.
👋 Thank you to our volunteer ambassadors for greeting hikers at LELT trailheads. LELT Ambassadors offer friendly reminders, helpful information, and provide us with valuable data and information on trail use and conditions. Introduce yourself and say thanks if you see them at a trailhead this weekend!

It takes all of us working together to keep LELT lands and trails beautiful and ensure everyone enjoys their time on the trail. Stay safe, be kind, and thank you for doing your part. 💚
